TOEFL stands for Test
Of English as a Foreign
Language. The
TOEFL test is administered in many countries around the world to
non-native English speaking students who want to enter a college or university in the
United States. A TOEFL score is required by more than 4000 2-year, and
4-year colleges and universities. The score requirements vary by
school, however, a good score can mean the difference between being
accepted to a university and not being accepted.
The TOEFL test consists of 4 components; listening,
structure, reading and writing. There is a paper-based test and a computer-based
test. You can contact your test center to see which test they
use. For more information on the TOEFL test, you may want to visit
the TOEFL site at http://www.toefl.org.
WESLI English Online TOEFL Courses
- Each course features listening, structure and reading.
- The Listening
section measures your ability to
comprehend North American spoken English. It tests understanding of
main ideas, supporting ideas, details and inferences. There are two
parts to the listening comprehension portion of the test. Part A
= short conversations followed by one question after each. Part B
= short dialogues, mini-lectures and academic
discussions followed by several questions.
- The Structure component is the grammar portion of the test. It
measures your ability to recognize appropriate written language. The
language on this part of the test is formal rather than
conversational. Special knowledge of the topics is not required in
order to answer the questions in this section of the TOEFL test.
There are two types of questions: Error Identification and Sentence
Completion.
- The Reading
portion of the test measures your ability to understand short reading
passages which are similar to what you might find in an academic text used
in colleges and universities in North America. Our
courses consist of 3 different academic-type readings followed by a number of questions.
- We offer a message
board to discuss the
TOEFL. You may ask about our courses, the TOEFL test in general or specific TOEFL questions. A native-English speaking teacher is available to answer your questions.
- Our courses are very similar to the actual TOEFL test. You will get immediate feedback as to your strengths and weaknesses via our post-exercise explanation page. This is invaluable in determining where you need more practice.
- You may take ALL of our TOEFL courses; each one is structured in the same way, but the CONTENT for each is different.
- You do not have to take our other courses before you take the TOEFL course.
